About Susan Aylworth

Susan writes small-town romance straight from the heart.

Family. Community. Love. Writing.

Susan loves people (and most other mammals), words in virtually all polite forms, and perfect raspberry jam. Her love of story began at an early age. “My parents, both teachers, read to me almost from the time I was born. They said I could recite every word of The Tawny, Scrawny Lion.” She wrote her first book, “an eight-page shameless rip-off of Black Beauty,” when she was nine. At her fifth-grade career day, she declared her goal to become a rich and famous author. Years later, she is pleased to have achieved the “author” part of that goal.

She loves research. “I know that sounds suspiciously like homework, but I love learning about the backgrounds and careers of the characters in my novels. It's one way to live many lives at once.”

Researching locations dovetails with her love of travel. She has stepped onto every continent except Antarctica and hopes one day to visit there. She draws much of her inspiration from beautiful northern California, where she lives with her husband of fifty years, Roger, who is also a writer. They have also lived on the East Coast and in the Navajo Nation, the setting for several of her novels. Like most women of her generation, she wishes the kids would visit more often. When they’re not around, “I hang with my imaginary friends,” her characters, who take her on all kinds of adventures.
